Donate to the ACLU or Local Charities
The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization fighting for the rights of all people in the Unites States through legal assistance. Donate to the ACLU to support the protection of civil liberties including our freedom of speech and other constitutional rights.

Know Your Rights as a Protester
As the weather gets warmer, we’ll be taking to the streets more and more often now. It’s important to know your rights as a protester to legally protect yourself in the event of any incidents that may occur while you’re out protesting.

Register for the NLG’s Legal Observer Program
A legal observer is an independent, neutral party that records and documents the interactions between demonstrators and law enforcement at a protest. They serve as deterrence against illegal behavior by the police and their documentation is used by lawyers when investigating the legality of police conduct.
The National Lawyer’s Guild (NLG) offers Legal Observer trainings via Zoom calls that you can find and register for on their website: https://ohionlg.com/lo/
Take Care of your mental Health
You’ll probably hear this phrase often in regard to political activism and making changes in our society: It’s a marathon, not a sprint! While yes, there is a flood of information and executive overreach happening in our government right now, it’s important to realize the limitations we each have as individual people. We do ourselves a disservice by trying to do too many things at once. So, remember to take time to breath and mindfully de-stress.
For this action, please take at least 10 minutes to purposefully do something that makes you happy and relieves your stress. This can include mindful meditation, dancing, playing with a pet, or hugging a loved one.
Follow the Money
The choices we make in how we spend our money can play a major influence in our society. While perfectly ethical consumption may not be possible in a capitalistic society, we can take small measures to try and buy goods and services from local businesses or from corporations who align with our political views.
For this action, take the time to look into some of the brands, labels, or entities that you purchase from.

The MeidasTouch and the #1 Podcast
In mid-February 2025, the MeidasTouch Podcast became the #1 podcasting platform, taking the top spot from Joe Rogan [1]. This marks an important shift in the podcasting sphere of influence, and it is equally important that we continue to boost the ratings for platforms that share the truth and accurately describe the ongoing constitutional crisis that is occurring within the Trump administration.
For more on why this is important, consider the words of Jesse Watters on Fox News: “We are waging a 21st century information warfare campaign from the left…It's like grassroots guerrilla warfare. Someone says something on social media, Musk retweets it, Rogan podcasts it, Fox broadcasts it, and by the time it reaches everybody, millions of people have seen it“ [2]. By being the new #1 podcast, MeidasTouch interrupts the chain of disinformation.

Acknowledge Media Bias
Most of the news media produced in the USA is distributed by for-profit companies who have the potential to make millions from dispersing misinformation and instilling rage in their consumers. In a day when engagement is broadly valued more than truth, it is important to think critically about the news that you see. While catching lies that conflict with your personal agenda is easy, it is more difficult to catch misinformation that confirms your beliefs.
To see how your favorite media companies stack up, visit these websites which dissect partisan bias:
Fact Check
Many will acknowledge that fact checking is important, but few take it upon themselves to double check their resources. It's often difficult and confusing work but there are many good resources to make it easier! Here are some fact checking tips:
If a news source posts something particularly scathing or incendiary, see how politically oppositional news sources covered the same topic. If both are skewed interpretations, you will learn a lot!
Check your primary sources. If you see a headline about a troubling bill or executive order, visit https://www.congress.gov/ or https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/ to read the bill or executive order yourself. Sometimes the legalese will impair readability but, frequently, you may find that they are more readable than you think!
(Reddit-specific) The Reddit "Popular" page is left-leaning. If you find a shocking or unbelievable post with lots of support, sort by Controversial and you will often find more nuanced dissenting opinions.
Use these helpful resources when the topic or the story gets too muddled for you to understand: https://www.factcheck.org/ https://www.politifact.com/ https://www.reuters.com/fact-check/ https://www.rumorguard.org/ https://www.snopes.com/
op-Eds, opinion pieces, and letters to the editor
Writing a letter to the editor that gets published is a way to get an important issue into the public eye. Legislators and policy makers use the editorial section of the news to keep a pulse of public sentiment and issues important to their constituency.
Write and submit an op-ed, letter to the editor, or opinion piece today:

Gardening resources
Because of an executive order announcing a National Energy Emergency, our federal lands are now ripe for exploitation [1]. There are actions we can take such as following and assisting the Alt National Park Services, as well as starting the seeds of our own gardens.
Here are some actions you can take today:
Use the USDA map to figure out the plant hardiness zone in your area: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/planting-zones/ohio-planting-zones.htm
Look into the Ohio Victory Garden program and figure out where you can pick up sample seed starter packs: https://u.osu.edu/ohiovictorygardens/sowing-the-seeds/
Volunteer with the Growing to Green’s Community Volunteering program: https://www.fpconservatory.org/education-programs/outreach-programs/growing-to-green/community-volunteering/
Buy native plant seeds (and eventually start sowing them into your lawn): https://columbus.wildones.org/local-sources-for-native-plants/

Physical Media and Banned Books
Beginning in 2020, the United States has seen a sharp increase in the number of documented attempts to censor books [1]. Buying physical media ensures that you will always have access to it. Consider buying a book that has been challenged or banned across multiple schools throughout the United States.
Boycott Tesla
DOGE would not exist without the overwhelming influence of Elon Musk's exorbitant wealth. Today, he is the richest man in the world and over 60% of his wealth comes from his shares in Tesla [1]. The best way to personally resist his influence is to completely and permanently boycott TESLA.
Do not buy a Tesla, sell any Tesla products you own, do not use Tesla charging stations, sell Tesla stock, write reviews against the brand, and spread the word. If you know someone with a Tesla or hear that someone is considering buying one, try to convince them not to.
In Easton, a protest occurs in front of the Tesla dealership every Saturday at 4:30pm [2]. Join in or organize to boycott other Tesla dealerships in Ohio!
Freeze your Credit
We know that DOGE has almost unrestricted access to payment systems utilized by Social Security, Medicare, and the Dept. of the Treasury. Under normal circumstances, independent government contractors would be rigorously vetted so that the NPPI (non-public personal information) of people in these databases would be protected. Given that DOGE's operational efficiency is governed by a hapless "chainsaw" method of slashing budgets without care, consideration, or compliance, the likelihood of your personal data being leaked is potentially greater than ever.
Freezing your credit is very easy and completely free. It has no adverse effect on your financial health and only impedes hard pulls on credit. It greatly reduces the risk of identity fraud which often hinges on using your NPPI and credit history to open up new unauthorized accounts in your name and to make purchases using these accounts. Contact Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion today to get started!
Numbers to add to your phone contact list
The jail support hotline numbers for the Ohio National Lawyer’s Guild are 614.654.6477 (614.NLG.OH77) and 216.5050.NLG (654) [1]. Add these numbers to your phone and write them on your body when you protest in person.
Take the time to include other important numbers in your phone contact list including whoever you designate as your emergency contact number, the phone numbers of your immediate neighbors (if you’ve never met your neighbors or exchanged numbers, now is the time to do so!), and the numbers of your state senators and representatives.
Once you have updated your phone contact list, we recommend that you export that list so that you have a physical copy on hand should you ever need it!
Activate someone else
If you’ve never met your neighbor before, now is the time to introduce yourself. If you have friends, coworkers, or acquaintances who consider themselves “not very political,” start sharing your feelings about the current environment that we’re living in. Send a text to an old friend encouraging them to join a group like 50501.
Activating someone else takes many forms and is an ongoing process. However, there are topics that people around you deeply care about that may be closely tied to politics, whether they realize it or not. Although it may seem more comfortable to turn off the news and step away from political conversations, encourage those around you to tune in. Invite a friend or family member to come to a town hall or protest with you. The strength of the people lies in our solidarity. We are the fourth branch of government.
Elizabeth Dorrance Hall, associate professor of communications at MSU, suggests five ways to approach political conversations [1]:
Consider your goal
Be honest about the stress you’re under
Lean into what you have in common
Listen and validate
Have an ally
Social Media Recommendations and spreading our message
It’s important to expand the influence and message of 50501 across various media and platforms. This means commenting on platforms beyond just 50501’s social media accounts. Find a YouTube channel, TikTok account, Bluesky or other socials that align with our goals and tell them about the 50501 movement. It’s time to influence the influencers. Recommend that they stand up for democracy and tell them that “50501 brought me here!”
